In FotR , the book, there is a lot of detail on the happenings, characters, places, and the last alliance. Making it such put it past 500 pages . In the book, you read quite a lot about the last alliance of men and elves, explaining the behavior of some of the characters in the book. There is also many songs in the book. And a bunch of characters we never see in the movie, like Glordenfield and Tom Bombadil.
But the movie made the book come to life. We got to see Aragorn,Frodo,Sam,Pippin, Borormir, and so on. We got to see the Balrog of Morgoth, and the giant troll. So in context of both film and book, which one was better?
Personal Opinion: The book.
Reason: Because! You learn so much history and information on the characters and events leading up to The War of the Ring. It's just really interesting.

As someone commented on the CoE clubs section - I would not like Peter Jackson writing LOTR and J. R. R. Tolkien shooting LOTR. Books are wonderful because they're full of details, everything is so precisely described, persons, nature, legends of the old time. Movies had the advantage of SHOWING you nature and persons without need of describing, so movies focused on the part that was not so outlined in the books - the battles. But books have definite advantage over movies - you can bring them when you+re going on a trip, to the beach of where ever you go. Books occupy your mind completely because not only they're asking for concentration on reading, they're stimulating brain to visualise pictures

no you are right amnariel that would have been a disasster.... PJ is patient otherwise he would not have made lotr but to write lotr that needs some good ideas and just think about all the language

Personally I like movies better because I'm visual... but I still love the books. In this instance, both movie and book are so good by themselves, and even greater when intertwined together, that I don't really favor either of them over the other.

Yes well, generally, fans of LotR, I mean, really devoted fans ( like myself) choose the books due to their authenticity.

That´s one thing i really love about this board!

One of the reasons I support P.J. is because he had the guts to make the movies. When he first said he'd make FotR everyone was like " Are you JOKING?!" It just wasn't heard of! It was a fools errand! But..you can't blame them for thinking so. Directing LotR movies is almost like getting married. It is a HUGE step and a HUGE desiscion to make. Not to mention, it's quite gutsy.

Yeah, well, I tend to get touchy, and in depth on these kinds of things.
